White-Cloud
is a small community located approximately 50 miles north of Grand Rapids in the west-central portion of Michigans Lower Peninsula. It serves as the county seat for Newaygo County and has a population of about 1,400. The history, and name, of White Cloud goes back to the Ottawa Indians who lived in the area long before lumber barons arrived in the late 1800s. This is quite a rural area, but with many lakes, parks and outdoor recreational activities available. Over half of Newaygo County is located within the Manistee National Forest, which offers hiking, biking, camping and sightseeing. Lake White Cloud is a seven-acre impoundment of the White River and has a public beach, picnic areas and playground equipment and fishing. Three public golf courses are located in White Cloud and a driving range is nearby. In addition, Hardy Pond is also located near White Cloud. It is the largest impounded body of water in Michigan and offers excellent fishing, sailing, boating and water skiing. Other nearby attractions include Loda Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, the White Cloud City Campground, snowmobile trails and White Cloud is in the center of a routed fall color tour.

Central Michigan , on the Lower Peninsula, has four distinct seasons, with weather that can be quite variable. This is because the state is nearly surrounded by water, and the climate is influenced both by warm, humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, and cold, dry air from the Arctic. The central region of the Lower Peninsula has warm summers with precipitation in the form of showers and thunderstorms. The climate is somewhat influenced by a lake effect, which helps keep temperatures mild during the summer and increases the moisture content in the air throughout the year. In the winter, this moisture condenses as snow as it reaches the land, creating heavy snowfalls in some areas, known as snow squalls. Autumn is often the sunniest time of the year in Michigan.
