Baldwin
is the county seat of Lake County, which is one of Michigan's top recreational areas. The town is situated along the Baldwin River, approximately three miles north of Pere Marquette River. And with over a dozen lakes within a five-mile radius, water sports abound in the Baldwin area. Know especially for their premiere canoeing expeditions, Baldwin also has plenty of swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping opportunities. The friendly town of Baldwin is the center for all the outdoor fun, and is well known for their specialty fishing lure and equipment shops. You'll also find curious antiques shops, gift shops and restaurants in town, and many resorts, cottages, cabins and other lodging nearby. An unusual attraction in Baldwin is the Shrine of the Pines, a unique shrine sculpted from tree stumps and remnants of the virgin white pine. The shrine also contains the largest collection of white pine furniture in the world. The town also celebrates the annual "Troutorama" each summer, the "Blessing of the Bikes," each May, and outdoor jazz all summer long.

Michigan enjoys four distinct seasons and there is a saying that goes, "wait a day and the weather will change," which is a pretty good description of the weather in the Great Lakes region. This is because the climate is influenced both by warm, humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, and cold, dry air from the Arctic. The west-central region of the Lower Peninsula has warm summers with precipitation in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Located near the shores of Lake Michigan, the climate is influenced by the lake effect, which helps keep temperatures mild during the summer and increases the moisture content in the air throughout the year. In the winter, this moisture condenses as snow as it reaches the land, creating heavy snowfalls in some areas, known as "snow belts" on the downwind shores of the lakes. Showers and thunderstorms are common in the spring and summer, and fall is often the sunniest time of the year in Michigan.
