Lake-Mitchell
is located near the town of Cadillac in Lower Michigan, approximately 90 miles north of Grand Rapids. This beautiful lake is 2,580 acres in size and is connected to Lake Cadillac by a navigable canal. Both lakes offer an abundance of recreational activities, including a shallow area for swimming that is ideal for children, and there are two restaurants located on both Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac that offer boat docking and dining by boat. Lake Mitchell is just a short drive to thousands of acres of state and federal forestlands that offer hunting and fishing, and canoeing is available on the nearby Manistee River. Nine golf courses are located in the area, and Lake Mitchell is near several world class trout streams. This area also contains hundreds of miles of snowmobiling trails, and is at the heart of a huge statewide trail system. Downhill skiing and snowboarding are available at Caberfae Peaks, which is just twelve miles west of Cadillac, and five different trail systems are available in the area for cross-country skiing. Other Lake Mitchell area attractions include the 7-mile Lake Cadillac Bike Path, White Pine Trail State Park and the Harrietta Fish Hatchery. Also, the nearby town of Cadillac is host to the annual North American Snowmobile Festival, usually held the first weekend in February.

Lake Mitchell Weather & Climate

Four distinct seasons with a lake effect that is quite strong during much of the year describes the climate of the northern region of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The lake effect increases cloudiness and snowfall during late fall and winter, and also modifies the temperatures - keeping them cooler in the summer. Northwest Michigan sees a lot of moisture throughout the year in the form of showers and thunderstorms during the summer and snow and ice during the winter. In winter, the humidity from the lake condenses as snow when it reaches land, creating quite heavy snowfalls in some areas. During the winter, the temperature of the lakes continues to drop, and ice sometimes covers portions of the lakes. Summers are warm, but periods of extreme heat and humidity are infrequent.
