Six-Lakes
is a small community located in Montcalm County in the southwest region of the state, right at the junction of M-66 and M-46. Named after a chain of six lakes in the area, which are located just to the north of town, the Six Lakes region is known for its' mid-summer celebration called the "Six Lakes Jubilee." The lakes can be accessed from the town of Six Lakes by following Nevins Street just one block east of the Post Office to the Township Park. As a part of Montcalm County, which is mostly a rural area and known for its' agriculture, especially potato production, Six Lakes has also become a popular tourist spot with its' picturesque countryside and easy accessibility to the lakes. There are also many beautiful county parks and state game areas in the Six Lakes region. It's well known for its' great fishing, but also offers hiking, biking, inner tubing, canoeing, swimming, water skiing, camping and birdwatching. Two of "Golf Magazine's Top 100 Courses in America" are located in the nearby Big Rapids region. Six Lakes has an easy, small town atmosphere and makes a nice family vacation destination, for anyone looking for some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Six Lakes Weather & Climate

Michigan enjoys four distinct seasons and there is a saying that goes, "if you don't like the weather, wait a day and it will change." This is because the state is nearly surrounded by water, and the climate is influenced both by warm, humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, and cold, dry air from the Arctic. The central region of the Lower Peninsula has warm summers with precipitation in the form of showers and thunderstorms. The climate is somewhat influenced by a "lake effect," which helps keep temperatures mild during the summer and increases the moisture content in the air throughout the year. In the winter, this moisture condenses as snow as it reaches the land, creating heavy snowfalls in some areas, known as "snow squalls" on the downwind shores of the lakes. Showers and thunderstorms are common in the spring and summer, and fall is often the sunniest time of the year in Michigan.
