Greenbush
is located along the shores of Lake Huron between the towns of Alcona and Harrisville, and just seven miles north of Oscoda. Cedar Lake and Van Ettan Lake are also in the near vicinity. This small town began in 1849 when a fishery was constructed here, and later became a lumber town. Today the village of Greenbush relies mainly on tourism. Numerous resorts are located along the Lake Huron shoreline near Greenbush, and the town itself offers more than 300 feet of sandy beach for summertime activities. There are many things to see and do in the near vicinity, including scenic riverboat trips along the Au Sable River, and fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing and kayaking. There are over 130 miles of scenic trails in the area for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing and birding is popular at Three-Mile Beach Park just a few miles south of town. Charter boats are also available at several locations along the shoreline that fish for salmon and trout in Lake Huron. Nearby Oscoda holds several special events throughout the year, such as "Art on the Beach," "Paul Bunyan Days," and the "Gagaguwon Traditional Pow Wow."

The West Central Portion of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, near Wilson State Park, experiences four distinct seasons. There is a saying for the region that goes "if you don't like the weather, wait a day and it will change." This is true because the area is influenced by both the cold, dry air coming down from the Arctic, and the warm, humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico. Summers are generally warm and humid, but not unbearably so, and winters are cold and snowy. Nearer the shoreline, lake effect breezes help moderate the temperatures in the summer and moisture laden air coming off the lake in the winter creates heavy snowfalls in some areas. Spring can be a mixed bag of cool temperatures and snow, or mild with periods of rain and thunderstorms. Fall is often the sunniest, driest time of the year in Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
