Gwinn
is a small town with big attractions. Located in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula in Marquette County, Gwinn is surrounded by more than 52 lakes and forested areas. Billed as "The Treasure in the Pines," Gwinn is a four season recreational area. In summer, you can enjoy canoeing, boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, camping and golf. Beautiful woods surround the lakes where you can enjoy an invigorating hike or a peaceful walk beside the creeks and streams. Gwinn Weather & Climate
The Northwestern Region of Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a wilderness area with four seasons - mild summers, cool springs and autumns and cold winters. The climate is greatly influenced by Lake Superior, as well as cold, dry air coming from the Arctic region. The Lake acts as a giant humidifier, increasing the moisture content of the air throughout the year. In the winter, this moisture condenses as snow when it reaches the land, creating heavy snowfall, known as "snow squalls." The shores of Lake Superior are prone to this "lake effect" snow and have recorded up to 350 inches of snow in a single year. However, average snowfall for this area is 177 days per year. In summer, the cooling lake breezes have a positive effect on the climate, keeping it from becoming too hot and uncomfortable. This area has an average of only one-day per year when the temperature reaches 90 degrees F.
